Thursdays Rice Dishes

For several decades now, it’s quite common to find the Spanish staple dish ´La Paella´ on restaurant menus on a Thursday.

So, to what do we owe this gastronomic tradition?

There are several tales and legends about its origins.

One of the main explanations is that the freshly caught fish was taken to the interior of the country, arriving there on a Thursday, making it the best day to serve paella on the menu.

Another popular story tells that Friday was the main shopping day for groceries, leaving the Thursday the best day to eat ´leftover´ meats and products with a long shelf life, such as rice.

Finally, another legend tells us about the tradition originating in wealthy houses and not restaurants. Thursday was the rest day for the servants and so the owner was in charge of preparing the food that day.

Whatever the real reason is… we still enjoy this delicious tradition today!

During our Tapas & Wine tour, it’s one of our most popular stops where we present different Paellas and Fideua for you to taste.
